We are Africa Bound!

January 24, 2011 by Deanna

For those who might not know, our family lived in Mozambique Africa for 3 years back in 2004 – 2007. And it looks like we will get another chance to spend some time in Mozambique again. My husband applied for this job back in July and we were just given an offer last Friday. My husband will be working with a relief aid organization and we are very fortunate to have been given this opportunity. The excitement we all feel is wonderful, but the pain we feel getting ready to leave everyone we love here is very hard. And probably the hardest part is our daughter who is in college, she will come visit but she stays here to study. Our immediate family has never been that far apart before and that’s the most difficult part of this.

As for this blog, it will change some. I don’t know if my readers are interested in Africa, the process of getting ready to leave(did I mention we leave in March?), photos or what I possible can find to make over there. I figure I am going to be there living in the culture, I might as well share it with you all. What do you think?

Just some of the interesting things you will see when in the jungles of Africa.

Yes, Deanna – we are interested in Africa and what you experience there – leaving out the snake, however! Good luck – I know Sandi will miss you!

Wow, that’s not something you see in central Illinois!

Yes, please keep us posted! I’ve enjoyed this blog and have to believe it will only get more interesting once you’re in Mozambique.

Oh the green eyed envy monster rears it’s ugly head here at Chez Knit. I love Africa (have visited Ghana, Uganda and Rwanda). I am definitely wanting to live the whole moving back process vicariously.

    LOVE the second picture.

I’m sure you’ll be able to inspire your followers with new creations from Africa. I would love to learn to make paper beads that are made by so many women from Africa. I have 2 necklaces that I purchased as a fundraiser to support this self sufficiency effort for womens groups. I adore my necklaces. Please see what you can find out about this craft.

O.K….. I really would be interested in seeing/hearing/reading about what your up too over in Mozambique… not too sure about that last visual though! Sorry… snakes are not high on my lists of looking at! My folks were in Thailand and saw a few of the deadlier types; vipers, pythons etc… and well hmmm, guess I’m just too much of a worrier! But love the rest of the stuff! Good luck! It’s hard to move, just think of all the new friends you will make! Can I give you a little advice? When you write to family/friends, at least once in a while do it with snail mail… it means a lot to have your hand written letters to look back on!
    Good luck with the packing!

I just recently found your blog through Joy (the baker) and love it! I hope you will be able to continue to show us all how to make things beautiful again, even with an African flair!

Good luck to you on your new adventure! And with Skype, email, IM, etc., you’ll be able to at least keep in contact with your daughter. Not the same as being able to hug them but it helps! I know! Mine is a half a world away, too…

    Take care!

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes. It is an amazing opportunity and I will make sure and enjoy it! I already have ideas of what to make when we get there.

I can’t wait until you get here to see what amazing things you can make with the materials here. Make sure you break a lot of modge podge, glue, and all those other products you can’t get here! See you soon!!!
