Guess What?

I’m busy writing stories, editing photos, finishing up Christmas gifts, and creating new ones. I also am trying to fight off these parasites that seem to enjoy using my body for their home.

My husband and I were invited to the Japanese Ambassadors house yesterday to celebrate the Emperor of Japans birthday. There was a full table of lovely looking food and as we stood and listened to the ambassador speak I was checking out the buffet table, excited to try some new food. As the speech was coming to an end and the sushi was being brought out, I was off to find a bathroom. I came back to find the line super long and my husband had not got in line cause he was waiting for me. With my current condition, we thought it best we leave. I did offer to sit and wait while he ate but being the smart man he is, he said “Using the toilet 2 times in one visit to anywhere is acceptable but beyond that it looks suspicious.” So we left and went to the pharmacy for more medicine. I am hopefully on the mend, because we fly back to the states next week.

So on to something not so personal….

I made a bunch of cute little flowers and sewed them together and than looked at them and thought, this just doesn’t look right so I went to my little drawer of goodies and found these little shell beads and connected a few and decided this looked more African and much cuter. I cut up a leather necklace and used pieces to attach the beads.

DIY Altoid Tin/Scrabble Tile Magnet Set

Have you ever wondered what could be done with those Altoid or mint tins you have laying around? Well here is an idea for you. This is a great gift for kids to make for their teachers or even for their friends. Its a fairly easy project. And if you have a lot of Scrabble tiles you can make some great words or sayings.

Supplies:

~Scrabble Tiles

~Magnets(round work best)

~Hot Glue Gun

~Altoid/Mint tin

~Paper

~Spray adhesive

~Ribbons

1. Take your magnets and hot glue them to your scrabble tiles.

2. Cut a piece of paper to fit inside the tin lid & bottom. Using spray adhesive, spray the tin and fit your paper in.

3. Using your spray adhesive, spray on the top of the tin and attach the paper decorations of your choice.

I used a gift label and attached ribbons and scrap material to it to make it pretty. This was a fairly quick project.

Recycled Collar Bib Necklace

I have been working on a lot of projects and most are half done, like I have said before, I start something and then stop and then when I go back I start something new, not sure why, but some disconnect in my brain somewhere I am sure. Anyhow I did finish this one but even after finishing it I feel like I need to add something more.

Let me tell you a little about where the materials came from: The half moon material came from a coat that I got from the goodwill. I just seam ripped it apart and took the collar and used the button for the center. The flower is from the jacket and from a silk shirt that I cut apart. And the funky beaded sequin leaf was barely hanging on a tank top. So I put them all together and got this – A beautiful Holiday necklace.

My First Attempt: Beaded Bib Necklace

I love this necklace, it looks great with a simple tank or tee. The beaded section came from a shirt and it was shaped perfectly for a necklace. I made the three flowers out of satin and tulle and started with one flower, than two and finally decided it needed three. I added a lovely brown shimmery ribbon to the back, which you can’t see in these photos. The deep rich browns in this necklace are perfect for fall and winter.

Turn that Silk Tie into a Headband

I wasn’t looking to do anything with a silk tie but when I saw the colors of this old tie I had the idea to cut it up and see what kind of bow I could make out of it for a headband. Some say the bow is a bit big but the colors are perfect for fall.

This was fairly simple. I just tried it out and didn’t measure so I don’t have a tutorial but I will be doing this again so check back.

Wrist Corsages with Vintage Jewels

I have been having fun making these wrist corsages. Its fun coming up with something so delicate and dainty. Its not the easiest to get on by yourself because they tie on your wrist but I find that’s what makes it them so feminine.

And adding a little vintage jewels here and there make these the perfect dinner out or party accessory.

DIY Bottle Cap Ponytail Holder

I have had all these bottle caps laying around and yesterday day it dawned on me to try them out as ponytail holders. I had been looking at the cute vintage button bobby pins that have been covered with fabric and I looked at the bottle caps and wondered if I could do the same thing and well the answer is YES! And I hope you try this one, they would be great for stocking stuffers. I know its a bit early but with school starting today, it always gets me thinking about Christmas gifts.

Materials Needed:

Button
Bottle Cap
Scrap Fabric
Ponytail Holder
Hot Glue Gun & Glue

1. Cut out a piece of fabric about an inch outside the bottle cap. Sew around the circle with the longest stitch your machine has or by hand and gather as you go.

2.Stick the bottle cap inside. It should look like this.

3.Hot glue the gathered section down into the bottle cap. Put more glue in the bottle cap and secure the ponytail holder in place until its dry, making sure to cover completely with glue.

4.You have the option here to cover your button with fabric or not. Next put more glue on top of the ponytail holder and secure with your covered or plain button.

You can use any fabric, but if you use see-thru material, make sure you use plain(no logos) bottle caps, or else the logos will show through.

Fall Fabric Flowers

I have been putting some headbands and hair clips together for the fall. I love the plaid and darker colors. I know we still have a bit of summer left and believe me I am enjoying it but fall is coming up quickly and its so fun to be back into sewing and creating. Here are a few of my creations.

I will be putting together that Anthropologie Necklace I talked about a couple of weeks ago so check back for the tutorial. It should be a fairly easy one.

DIY Ruffle Shower Curtain

I have admired the ruffle shower curtain from Anthropologie for the last year but the price is a bit much to spend on a shower curtain. I figured it was worth me trying it on my own. I really like how this turned out and it was fairly simple, time consuming, but simple.

For some reason I could never get my girls to use flat sheets and after 10 years of trying and every morning finding the flat sheets squished at the bottom of the bed, I finally gave up and put the flat sheets away. But today they came to great use. I pulled out all my twin flat sheets and started cutting strips to sew onto the old shower curtain. I used the nice clean edges for the bottom of the ruffles and layered all the way up. It was super easy just took time to sew the long stitch, pull to ruffle, pin to the old shower curtain and then sew on. I love how it turned out. If you dont have old sheets, you can always go to your local thrift store and find some pretty vintage sheets to use for ruffles. You can really cover any color or design of shower curtain.
