Vintage Mexican Wedding Dress

I found this dress at the goodwill outlets and googled the description and found that this dress is a vintage crocheted Mexican wedding dress. I love the detail on this dress but would love to turn this into a summer sundress. I am not sure if I should attempt cutting this up or not. What do you think?

Vintage Patterns

I came across a huge box full of patterns at the thrift store the other day and found these beautiful patterns. I am not sure the age but I would think 50's and 60's. They are in a larger size but with a little adjustment I would be able to make them work for me.

There's an Elephant in the Room

If you know me, you know that I love elephants. It makes more sense if you know that I spent 3 years in Africa and a favorite past time was visiting Kruger National Park. Elephants are amazing, majestic animals and the fact that they can make cars move out of their way, just because, well I admire that.

My birthday was two weeks ago and my niece and her boyfriend asked to take us out to pizza. We laughed when we sat down to pizza and instead of numbers for your table, you get animals and ours just so happened to be an elephant. And then they asked me to open up my gift and it was an elephant clock that she had found at a thrift store by her house. Such a great find! I love it!

My Daughters Vintage Prom Dress

We have gone back and forth on the whole dress ordeal for my daughter and I just felt I didn't have the knowledge or time to put into a dress like she wanted. So a few weeks back we found a used one and we were excited about it, but it needed some work, even though my daughter liked it, it wasn't what she really wanted. We had looked for a vintage dress and never found one that suited her, until this past weekend. We were at the coast for a few days and a friend had told me about this cute vintage shop down there. When we finally found the shop and made our way into the store the first thing to catch our eye was this mint green vintage 50's dress. It was so cute. I expected it to be a few hundred dollars but to our surprise it was only $50. We looked around the shop a bit and we kept being drawn back to the dress, so my daughter finally said, "Im going to try it on". And it fit perfectly! She walked out of the store with her new prom dress!

Crocheted and Silk Necklace

I was inspired by some pieces of jewelry I saw on Anthropologie and started pulling out all my lace, silk, and vintage crocheted thrift finds and just started playing around with how they would look with different things on them and I came up with this necklace. I quite like it!

I almost sewed this rose on without the black material behind it, I am so glad I put the black, it adds such depth.

I hope you are inspired by things you see. Most of the time its much easier than it looks, so give it a try!

Easy DIY Chiffon Flowers

I love the chiffon flowers you see all over the place, on headbands, hair clips, necklaces, and as brooches. I found a couple soft vintage shirts at the goodwill and have enjoyed cutting them apart for these cute flowers.

1. Cut circles out of chiffon or fabric of choice. How many depends on how large you want your flower.

2. Start by pinching the center of the circle so it looks like the above photo. Continue doing that until you have a bunch.

3. Take your needle and thread and sew the pinched circles together.

4. Using your hot glue gun, glue felt circles onto the bottoms of the flowers.

5. You can sew or hot glue on pins for a brooch or a clip for the hair. You can also add these to headbands or shoes.

Make some flowers for yourself and be creative, there are so many ways to use them.

Altered Silk Tank

I found this old silk tank top and I had big plans for it to be cut up, being that its silk, I figured I would use it for more flowers but instead I decided to add something fun to it and I am hoping to add more. I got the idea from an old Anthropologie catalog – the Snowscape Tank.

DIY Shirt + Dress = One Dressed Up Shirt

Shirt + Dress = One of a Kind Shirt

Do you have a dress that doesn't fit? Do you have a shirt that's too big? Wait – before you throw them out, see if you can't add some part of them to a tee. This is the best part of recycling, when you can incorporate something old into something you already have, making something totally new to you!

I found this orange shirt and this flower summer dress at the thrift store this past weekend and figured I would use the dress for some more aprons (I have an unhealthy obsession with aprons). I never realized until I got them home that the orange color in the dress matched the shirt perfectly. Knowing I only had plans for the bottom of the dress I figured I should somehow incorporate the top part of the dress into the shirt.

I wish I had a better picture of the shirt and dress side by side.

So much cuter than the plain tee it was before!

This was a super easy shirt to make. I cut the sleeves off the tee at the seam, sewed on the sleeves from the dress(I seam ripped those off). I cut off the neck section because it had such a nice seam and used that for the ruffle. And used the back ties for the front tie on the shirt. Super fast because most seams were already done for me. Try this on your own. If you come up with a great shirt, or shirt-dress or whatever, please share with me. I would love to see photos and will put them on the blog to share with everyone.

My Vintage Crocheted Spring Sweater

I was so excited when I found this sweet little sweater. Its adorable and perfect for spring. I cant wait to wear it. Its still a little cold outside but it wont be long before I can slip this on over a floral print dress.

Perfect condition, like it had never been worn.

I love these flower details.

Sweet scalloped sleeves.

And a little button closure.

My Thread & Needle Have Overcome the J Crew Challenge!

Evan, You will be so proud of me and dang it, I am proud of myself!

Can I be proud of myself?

Is that a perfectly sane thing to feel about ones self?

Well regardless I am so proud of myself. On Monday I was challenged to make this shirt from J Crew.

I took out the needle and thread and sewed my heart into a new shirt. Ok I didn't sew my actual heart into it, but I do not like to sew by hand but by golly I did it! And the next amazing fact….I actually like this shirt. I love how the flowers turned out!

What do you think Evan? Be honest!
