Kenya in Pictures

Thank Kenya! And thanks to my dear hubs for the photo of the Cheetah, his camera stopped working the second day and so we had to share cameras, which was hard on both of us, but they say sharing brings you closer together. 🙂

Beautiful Kenya

I am in Kenya! I will be in Kenya for the next two and a half weeks. We landed in Nairobi where the traffic is horrendous, a 40km drive was 2 hours. We are now on the coast in Malindi for a week and than to Mombasa, another coast town and than back to Nairobi for a few days and finally we will get to see the great Wildebeest migration in the Masai Mara. It will be a very busy trip but one I wont soon forget.

This was taken in the airplane over the coast of Kenya.

I will share more photos as the days go by.

Enjoy your weekend!

Recycled Painted Glass Jars

I love to recycle, hence the name “Recycled Lovelies”, I will admit not everything that I recycle is lovely but I really enjoy how these turned out.

I started by putting stickers on them and than painted them with a glossy paint. Let the paint dry and than peeled off the sticker.

It was that simple! You might want to run an exacto knife around the stickers so the paint doesn’t get pulled off with the sticker.

Hello’s and Goodbye’s

Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my daughter and send her back to the states for university. It is one of the hardest things for mothers, at least so far in my experience it has been the hardest thing. I see my youngest growing up faster than I would like too, she will turn 14 in less than two months and I don’t really know life without kids, so not sure how the after kids thing works.

On the 6th of September I will be traveling to Kenya for a retreat with my husbands work. We will get to go to Malindi on the coast, than spend some time in Nairobi and than off to see the Wildebeest Migration in the Maasai Mara Reserve. I am very excited but for those two weeks my youngest daughter has to stay here for school. Another goodbye, at least with a shorter time span.

Being in this foreign country has been tough, I have hit the culture shock zone and saying goodbye yesterday to my daughter is really making it harder. I have to keep reminding myself that tomorrow will be better…. sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Toilet Paper Roll Painting – Finished Project

Painting little circles with toilet paper rolls really is an easy way to accessorize any room in your house. I love how this looks. I used a black gloss and than used a grey to add some interesting effects. It kind of blurs when you look at it. Its very strange how using the grey on the outside causes it to do that. I would do this again. All you do is dip the toilet paper roll into the paint and press against the wall. Super simple!

Forgive me – the quality of the photos is not good due to the fact that my wide angle lens is in the states being fixed,

so I am using my point and shoot.

Toilet Paper Roll Painting

I saw this;

And I was totally inspired to do this in my bedroom. Can you believe it was done with toilet paper rolls?

My room has circles and dots all over it, and the wall is so boring that adding a nice sweep of circles will make my room complete.

Now all I need is to buy some paint.

Check back in the next couple of days to see the my new bedroom wall.

Easy DIY Pinecones (or Pineapples)

I saw these on Pinterest and instantly fell in love with them. I think these would look great in a basket on the table, but I was thinking I would make mine more like a pineapple since we live in Mozambique and the pineapple would go better with the surrounding decor in my house and the warm weather that is coming.

My Next Project

I absolutely love this pillow. I saw this in White River in South Africa and wanted to buy it but kept looking at it and thinking that it couldn’t be that difficult to make. So this is what I am working on. Hopefully it wont take me long to finish it.

Excuse the photo, it was taken with my Ipod.

Inhambane, Mozambique

We went on holiday to Inhambane, a 5 1/2 hour drive from the big city of Maputo where we live. Inahmbane is on the coast and is filled with fishing boats and sail boats. Its an amazingly beautiful place.

Picture Frame Turned Jewelry Organizer

Remember this frame?

When my friend was getting her stuff packed to move to the states she had a lot of things she was getting rid of, lucky for me this gold frame was one of them.

I need a jewelry organizer and when I saw a similar one on a website I decided to give it a try. Its not so easy to find the things you want here, one day you will find what you want and when you go back a couple weeks later for the same thing, they don’t have them anymore. The African way of life is sometimes overwhelming when it comes to finding what you need, so crafting here is usually done with what you have. Thankfully my friend was getting rid of the hooks that I added to the frame to hang the jewelry on.

I would like to paint this white but do not have white paint at the moment, the gold will do for now.
