Making a Dress from Dad's Dress Shirts

I found this dress below on Chic Steals, and she had made her own version. For her tutorial and how she made her dress click here.

I looked around Urban Renewal and found a couple other men's shirts recycled into dresses – below:

In December my father passed away and its been a hard transition to make, living without him. My mom has offered us kids to take something of our dads to remember him by. I told my mom I wanted to take one of my dads shirts cause they still have my dads smell on them(a good smell). OK that may sound weird to some of you but smells are a strong sensory thing for me, something that can take me to a place and time and bring back amazing memories. I miss my dad terribly, so for me, remembering him is a good thing.

After I saw these dresses I thought about how many dress shirts my dad has and how fun it would be to make a dress from his shirts that I could wear. These dresses are more summer than anything but I think if I used some darker colors and layered them with tee's I could make something for the fall months.

Check back soon to see my creations from my dads dress shirts.

This settles it…i need a sewing machine. STAT!

And I agree about smells. When my grandmother brought me my great-grandmother's dining room table that has been eaten on by our family for 50 years, it smelled like her house, and I absolutely loved that!
