the Dress from down under

And I am not talking about Australia! The theme song for this dress would be the All American Rejects song: Gives you hell.

Ok, so the first dress I started well, is no longer, after the whole sewing-by-hand fiasco I decided to set that aside and start a new one. Sunday night I started sewing away and was pretty impressed with how far I got, all I needed was a zipper, or so I thought. Not having a zipper foot I asked my sister for some help. My sister and her friend put the zipper in after a few fittings but then I had an appointment and had to leave before the final fitting. Last night I went and picked up the dress from my sister and I was excited to try it on. So I get home and try it on and its too big. I almost started to cry and I wanted to scream. I remained calm and took the dress to the sewing machine and went to town trying to take it in. I am not sure if its the type of material I used (seersucker) or the fact that I never used a pattern, but it bubbles and just doesn’t lay right when on. I went to bed thinking – “There is no stinking way I can wear this dress to the picnic”. But when I woke up I decided to try it on again, I took one section in and then I woke my dh up standing next to his side of the bed with the dress on asking him what he thought. Poor guy barely could see and I was asking him questions about a dress, not really his thing. But he was kind enough to get up and look at it. And take some photos. I found that if I wear a sweater it looks cute and you cant see the bubbles, I also see that my hair needs to be done again, but that’s a whole other story.

Are the red shoes too much?

See how the side bubbles?

The material I used was found at the Goodwill Outlet, It was a good two yards and plenty big enough for the dress.
