A Beautiful Hand-Me-Down: 1958 Prom Dress

My mom has had her prom dress sitting in the back of her closet since her prom in 1958. As kids we would admire it, and being girls, we would long to be able to pull it out of the closet and try it on. Being tiny myself, I knew that I would never be able to wear it, my mom isn’t big at all, but where she is top heavy, I am very much the opposite. Thanks Dad! So knowing I would never be able to keep that dress afloat, I just admired it from afar.
This last September my daughter tried on my moms dress one Sunday when we were visiting. We all were so impressed with how it fit her and how beautiful she was in it. My daughter asked her grandma if she could wear it to the Snowball in December. My mom was thrilled. Well last Saturday my daughter competed in the Local Keizer Jr. Miss at her school and decided she would wear her grandmas dress again. My mom was so excited to see her in it. She looked like a little Barbie Doll with her hair up in ringlets and the way the dress swayed back and forth while she walked so perfectly in front of everyone.
My mom knew that she would never get use of the dress again so she decided to hand it down to Chelsea. What a special gift for my daughter to be able to wear something that her grandmother wore and what a special gift for my mom to be able to see her granddaughter wear it.
Sometimes Hand-Me-Downs ‘can’ be beautiful!
